Today, Eisenberg & Bogdanoff, your Dentist in Atlanta, is here to give you some important tips about brushing your teeth. It’s essential for good oral health and patients can take this information to share with their children. It’s very common for people to not know the proper way of brushing and flossing, so we’re here to tell you the when’s, how’s and why’s!
On top of brushing in the morning when you wake up and before you go to bed at night, it’s highly recommended to brush after each meal that you have, and any damaging snacks you might indulge in throughout the day. The reason for this is because the acidity in your foods and drinks are breaking down the minerals that are protecting your teeth and enamel. If this is not properly taken care of, then it could lead to multiple cavities and even tooth decay.
After you’ve finished your meal, don’t brush your teeth immediately afterwards—wait about 30 minutes. Your saliva needs time to coat your mouth and continue protecting it and breaking down the bacteria. If you can, try brushing your teeth before you eat your acidic meal!
When you’re brushing your teeth, take your time. There’s no reason to rush! You’re supposed to brush for at least two minutes. Try flossing beforehand to get out any food particles that may be wedged in between your teeth that’ll be easier to get out when you brush. While you’re brushing for your two minutes, angle the head at a 45 degree angle so you’re getting your teeth and your gums. If you do this, then you’ll be able to get all the right parts of your mouth clean and strong! And don’t forget to brush your tongue, as well. Your food and drinks can linger on your tongue and cause an unflattering smell.
When we brush our teeth, we’re removing the bacteria from our meals throughout the day. Those bacteria can destroy our teeth and over time, making them fall out.
