Dental veneers are thin, custom made shells that cover the front surface of your tooth. This thin shell is used to improve the aesthetics of the tooth or to protect the tooth’s surface from damage. The tooth-colored material can hide stains and even reshape the size of the tooth.
Types of veneers
There are two types of veneers used in our Atlanta dental practice – porcelain and composite resin. Porcelain veneers are more durable, made in a laboratory, resists stains better, and have a very natural tooth look.
While composite resin veneers are more affordable, they have a shorter life span, are more prone to chipping, and require more maintenance than porcelain veneers.
- Your teeth are stained or discolored
- Your teeth are crooked or misshaped
- Your teeth have spaces between them
- Your teeth are broken or chipped
How it’s done
For porcelain veneers, it typically takes two visits to our Atlanta dental office. At the end of your first visit, you’ll leave with a temporary veneer to protect your tooth until the permanent veneer comes back from the laboratory. Before the veneer specifications are sent to the laboratory, Dr. Stan Eisenberg and Dr. Cindy Bogdanoff must take a take a couple steps.
Firstly, your teeth must be fitted for the veneer. This is done by trimming a portion of your tooth so the veneer can be bonded on. Lastly, an impression is taken of your tooth which is required to make sure the veneer comes back from the laboratory and fits perfectly on your tooth.
At your second visit, the temporary veneer, if you received one, will be removed. The new veneer, back from the laboratory, will be examined to ensure it fits well on your tooth. Once you and the team at Atlanta Smiles are satisfied with the look and feel of your new veneer, it will be bonded to your tooth.
